Everyone likes to pick on Big Oil, so why should I be an exception? Someone wants to throw a big ole service station up at the corner of Government and Broad, where a pharmacy used to stand and I can promise you part of the chatter at nearby Christmas parties does not include sentences such as "Did you hear? They're building a service station at Government and Broad. See, miracles do happen!" The miracle will be if it's approved and if it is which it probably shouldn't be, the structure should conform one hundred percent to the historic district architectural bylaws, and remain consistently so throughout the life of its existence at this location....and since we are on the subject I wonder if the city traffic engineers could do anything about not being able to turn left onto Government Street at this intersection if you are driving north on Broad Street? Ok, yeah, I'm leaving now....
One of my restaurant scouts pointed me to Korean BBQ which I visited yesterday. To be honest I was expecting/hoping for a local style restaurant but this was a fancy franchise in the Pinebrook Shopping Center where I imagine the rent there is reflected back on the menu. It's very hard to stake your claim in a very overcrowded "chicken wing" restaurant market, but the Korean BBQ sauce with sesame sprinkles was very good, and as promised for this style of chicken - crunchy. This restaurant opened in May and introduces Mobile to a national craze for Korean chicken, which, if you had tried to sell this forty years ago someone would have slapped you in the face and said "Get a grip, boy!"...
